And of course, because all I do is Signed, Sealed, Delivered all day, I couldn't help but be reminded of Glynis Rucker, who tried her best to do all three of these things to Rita's pageant dream in "The Future Me."
The enemy attempts to discourage, distract and make us feel like we aren't worthy, much like Glynis Rucker did to Rita. But when we remember our secret weapon, we remember just how unsquashable we are!
It usually starts right when we're ready to go after something we really want---those voices that whisper to us that we can't do something, that we aren't cut out for it, or, in the worst case, that we have to change ourselves in order to get what we want.
For Rita, it simply came out of nowhere---and it came in the form of Supervisor Glynis Rucker. Rita was minding her own business when she was warned by Glynis Rucker to stay away from the pageant or else be squashed like a bug. |
So is it any surprise that Glynis went out of her way to make sure that Rita saw her daughter singing at Open Mic night? It was meant to further intimidate Rita AND her biggest supporter.
There was also that last minute shot Glynis took at Rita before she took the stage, telling her to "break a leg...really break a leg." It seemed to really shake Rita up, but lucky for Rita, she had a secret weapon on her side.

Norman telling Rita about the South Pacific Tree Lobster was a reminder to Rita that she is unsquashable, no matter what anyone says or tries to say to make her feel otherwise.
We're unsquashable too---and our secret weapon is much Greater than a tree lobster. The Bible tells us that God is our secret weapon! Philippians 4:13 reminds us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. And because He strengthens us, nothing is impossible---we can beat the enemy at his own game. So if you ever find yourself the target of someone like Glynis Rucker, whether in something big or something small, remember how unsquashable you are, and Who makes you that way!
