The Pilot & Truth Be Told

All the things Truth Be Told had in common with the Pilot---- it will blow your mind.

There area a multitude of similarities between Truth Be Told and the Pilot---and it'll blow your mind! Let's start from the beginning:

• Remember how Shane was a late for her first day of work in the Pilot? She's also late for her first day back after her apparent From Paris With Love resignation.
• Just like Oliver gave Shane a lesson in all things DLO on her first day, so did Oliver to all the trainees.
• As in the pilot, an O'Toole is forced to call out "Shane, come back, Shane!"
• Shane's birthday was a big part of the Pilot in the letter she received from her estranged father, much like her birthday acts as part of the backdrop for Oliver's reconciliation with his father.

Educating the next generation about the concept of a dead letter.

• A card from a man complicated her birthday, whether from her estranged father, or her estranged ex, Steve.
  

• Oliver refers to his mother in Truth Be Told as "lovely." He prefaced his tale of being left by his wife in the Pilot by referring to Holly as a "lovely person" also.

• Repeated references to Shakespeare in both the Pilot and Truth Be Told---remember, we didn't hear any in From Paris, With Love.
  

• Like Shane revealing her hesitance to seek out her father in the pilot, Oliver has a history of rejecting attempts at reconciliation by his dad.

Will Shane ever have a birthday a man doesn't complicate?

• When faced with a situation she couldn't control, Shane retreated to Washington Park. Like Shane, Oliver wandered the park after learning of the death of his biological father, a situation he couldn't control.

• Swings are present in both installments, Oliver is pushing them both times.
  

• Oliver challenged Shane to throw her birthday card from her father away if it truly meant nothing. Despite the fact Oliver's letters from Dad made it into the trash, he went back frantically searching for them later. As we know, they were eventually returned.

An O'Toole doesn't like to see a letter (or person) lost for long.

• Where Oliver spoke truth to Shane about her father never ceasing to love her and that opening the card would allow her to tear open and deal with the pain she had been carrying around,  Shane reminded Oliver that his father never stopped trying to love him.

• Oliver first revealed he was a man of faith to Shane in the Pilot. In Truth Be Told, Shane reminded Oliver that while his faith had been shaken, he knew what he had to do in order to get it back.
  

• In Charlie and Kelly's story, finding Charlie was only the beginning. The Postables also made an attempt to track Kelly down. For Phoebe, they attempted to track down Clay.
  

• Though they thought she passed away, Kelly actually showed up to keep her date with Charlie, reminding us all that we can't believe everything we read on the internet. As in Truth Be Told, It appears that the premise of Impossible Dream will be that rumors are just rumors until facts can replace them, which is what the Postables end up on a mission to do in the nation's capital.

Crazy connections, right? After a bit more thinking, I might have figured out why all the connections exist, the consequences of which extend far beyond this installment. But I'll leave that for another post!
