I have never heard of lox---and for the longest time didn't even know it wasn't spelled "locks"---so when I happened to spy it on a menu at my local Einstein Brother's Bagels, I felt immensely educated, as well as immediately compelled to try it.
Upon ordering, I was completely ready to assemble the seemingly healthy dish as per Charlie's instructions---creme cheese, "glue" on the capers, then add the onion, tomato and lox on top. But, because this establishment caters to the busy, on-the-go, capitol area crowd, they had done all that for me. Now here is where things get interesting. I, of course, sit down and immediately start snapping pictures for the blog, ready to try this thing out. I take my first bite and... ...not feeling it AT ALL. I am not usually a raw fish person. And I also have no idea what "nova lox" are, and how they are differentiated from regular lox, if that's even a thing. So I was definitely taking a risk by ordering this. Unfortunately, it only served to reinforce my aversion to raw fish! |
That said, I am still glad I tried it, and, after stripping it of all its toppings except the creme cheese, got a nice bagel out of the thing. So, in the end, I did get (an albeit light) lunch that I could feel good about, along with the satisfaction of knowing I was adventurous in the name of Signed, Sealed, Delivered and this blog. Have any of you ever tried bagel and lox? What were your thoughts? Share them with me in the comments! Taking One For The Team, ~C |
