Hoping For More Phoebe In The Future,

Easily one of my favorite dynamics to date was the relationship between Norman and Phoebe Amidon in Truth Be Told and Impossible Dream. So I was super pleased when I found this extended moment at the Mailbox Grille between Norman, Phoebe and Rita over a burger, fries and a milkshake. The only real reason I can see for editing this scene down was because we as an audience can infer that Norman did, in fact, grow up to do something that would make those mean kids wish they had been nicer to him. Given all that transpired in this film, I can see why it was cut down.

Always nice to see extra scenes no matter what they are. ☺

i love comparing "aired" versus "extended scenes" versions. Always enlightening.

Love this extra dialogue. In this scene it was especially nice to hear Rita enumerating all the things she notices and appreciates as Norman's skills and talents. And also there's truth to the fact that sometimes our tormentors may never know all that we've accomplished, but it's enough that WE know the mountains we've climbed. In seeing these scenes I often wonder what Martha thinks about her words hitting the editing room floor rather than making it to the screen. I know such decisions must be made, but I'll bet it's hard for her to have to sacrifice these short but significant words that deepen her depiction of character and message.

Well said Marybeth. It must be hard to see parts of the characters falling to the floor in the editing room but they do a good job of making sure their personalities stay intact.
