Before You Go... Norman carried that manila envelope around like his life depended on it. And when he finally got the chance to deliver it to Rita, her world started falling apart in real time. But the moment brought the opportunity to show us just how much Rita and Norman have grown as individuals and into their relationship---whether they realize it or not! Taking a page out of Oliver's playbook, Norman sought to express his feelings for Rita by honoring something close to her heart, Renita Hayweather, by submitting a chapter to the magazine. Lord knows he would never jeopardize her pageant dreams, because, as we've discussed, Norman was a key player in making them a reality. |
Proper InvestmentsIt wasn't long ago Oliver was considering whether or not it was too early to be buying furniture. But in Impossible Dream---essentially two to three months later---Oliver was buying Shane a house, with the full intention of a porch swing gracing its exterior. What amazes me about the McInerney Home For Retired Postal Workers is that while Oliver wants Shane to essentially rebuild her childhood home, he doesn't actually admit that the house is for her. It's a subtle reminder that Oliver is right on the cusp of making he and Shane official, but he's not quite there yet. Despite this, he's clearly moving in that direction. In Impossible Dream, Oliver escalates from a quiet dinner to purchasing the closest thing to her heart, and all in a span of three days. Then I realized it has absolutely everything to do with Steve. |
I couldn't help but think of Oliver's advice to Norman in From Paris With Love. Oliver reminded Norman that love can only survive on "swagger and charisma" for so long, and that Norman simply needed a bigger broom. And, boy, was Steve trying to sweep Shane off her feet---literally and figuratively---in Impossible Dream! It occurred to me that purchasing the land of Shane's ancestral home was that bigger broom in Oliver's situation. It's the one thing Oliver can get her that Steve can't! Not to mention it's probably the closest possible thing to Shane's heart. You have to wonder when exactly Oliver found the time to even make the purchase, but given how short a time they were there, it would have had to have happened almost immediately---and likely after their run-in with Steve. Oliver was obviously motivated to seal the deal! |
I'm not sure what else could go on between ShOliver at this point short of them actually courting and putting a label on it. I mean, Oliver made Shane's house in Denver a home with that porch swing, and now he's fixing to rebuild her childhood home on the other side of the country. This brings me to the conclusion that 2016 has to be a big year for them. Boy, I can't even imagine what that will look like......be still my heart!
