As you know, I've been spending a lot of time with A Hope & A Future lately, from decoding the dialogue to dissecting the scenes. One thing we could still discuss, though, is college majors! This is the only installment in which time inside the hallowed halls and vine-draped walls of a university are even mentioned. So it begs the question of what exactly were the POstables' college majors?
Shane
Major: Art History Minor: Philosophy An eclectic mix of modern and classic, she hacks like a computer science major and could likely hold her own in a philosophical debate of any kind. It's this interesting combination that makes her such a perfect fit for Oliver, and so far she's the only one whose educational history we know anything about. |
Norman
Major: Chemistry Minor: Archaeology/Forensics In order to operate such a highly-sophisticated lab setup in an uncontrolled environment, not to mention inventing a ground-breaking "Revelation Solution" without causing an explosion, it stands to reason Norman has had some formal training. Given the care with which he handles damaged letter and his skill dusting for prints, it stands to reason some training might have been required to develop those talents as well, either archaeology or forensics (or both) would be ideal supplemental areas of study. |
Rita
Major: Creative Writing Minor: Medieval/20th Century U.S. History While it might not necessarily take formal education to write something like Renita Hayweather: Frontier Duchess, if our primary business is to assign appropriate majors, then I think creative writing seems an appropriate fit. Given the medieval/western twist she gave Renita, the Duke of Salt Lake City and other characters, these kind of designations are no doubt the result of previous study. |
Oliver
Major: American History Minor: ? "Clearly educated," as Shane observed in Something Good, we know Oliver O'Toole went to college. Given his readiness to educate Shane on "Manifest Destiny" in The Masterpiece, along with his penchant for things of the past, it seemed history might be a good fit. As far as his minor, though, I went back and forth on Philosophy or Religion. To keep you busy, I left it blank, hoping one of you might have a brilliant suggestion to fill it in! |
