And from the moment Shane and Oliver stepped out of the vault, their relationship evolved almost immediately as a consequence---you can trace it through Oliver's actions.
Visiting The Walker's
Perhaps the first real change is one I mentioned as part of Shane's wardrobe week discussion. She and Oliver are perfectly matched in their wardrobe choices the day they visit Jonathan Walker III and his wife.
But if that wasn't enough, there was also this exchange of looks after Oliver suggested that the Walkers' read the letters aloud like he and Shane had done. |
Between matching, and Oliver's allusion to their time in the vault, which Shane clearly understood, it's obvious Oliver's view of Shane has changed somehow, and his actions begin to reflect it.
And don't think Shane didn't sense a change as well. Remember when she asked Oliver to pray to help Rita remember that thirteenth mode of delivery? Even Shane seemed surprised that she took Oliver's hand. |

Oliver's Antics & Actions
If we've talked about it once, we've probably talked about it a hundred times. But rarely is Oliver's jealousy on display. You didn't think it was just out of the blue, did you? Oliver's transition to showing his real feelings started in "The Treasure Box." Oliver's long game was already in effect, and actively being pursued, when this moment transpired---this is probably the first time it was blatantly emphasized for the viewer!

For Christmas was also the other time you heard Oliver call Shane something other than "Ms. McInerney"---the other time this side of the "The Treasure Box."
And, of course, Oliver also retrieved her necklace for her, a miracle that should have had even Shane believing they were possible! |
In From Paris With Love Oliver's gentlemanly actions towards Shane began from the minute she walked into the office that Monday. We've already talked about Shane's place on his coat rack, and it's obvious this is a trend allowed to develop during the time elapsed since For Christmas.
But we all totally swooned when Oliver stood to help Shane remove her coat, resulting in the seconds that felt like an eternity of them looking into each others eyes. |
And then, of course, there's that porch swing. Of all the things Oliver has done since, "The Treasure Box" to reaffirm his treatment of Shane as a lady, going out and buying a porch swing ranks at the top. He's obviously smitten, and it seemed to me---and a lot of other people---that Oliver was all too eager to spoil Shane with that swing, and for her birthday more generally.
Or perhaps it was because he was so grateful for Shane helping through his emotional blizzard that celebrating spring was the only fitting conclusion? Either way, we'll take it! |

There's so much more to consider, POstables! Come back tomorrow to see what else I've come up with! ;-)
Cheering For Oliver,
