The Past

The Latin translates to:
(Big thanks to Angela & Marybeth for double-teaming the research on this point!)
|
For the record, this Latin does not appear on any of the cups featured in the series, not in Time To Start Livin', nor Dark of Night---I went back and checked--- so someone made the effort to engrave this phrase on purpose, and long before these current films were ever even in production. Note, however, that the phrase is now magically engraved on ALL the cups pictured below (might have to enlarge it)...
The Latin has kind of a melancholy ring to it---given this translation you aren't quite sure whether it refers to something hard that, once seen from another perspective, might not seem so bad or what! |
I hope you haven't forgotten about Joseph Lindley O'Toole, the former home of whom Oliver currently occupies. There is definitely some lesson to be learned from, or story to be told about, whom I think would be Oliver's Great Grandfather. Papa O'Toole could definitely shed some light on his grandfather, and given his presence in that picture of Dale, et. al. earlier this week, he could very well be called upon to do just that! Maybe Papa O'Toole made some enemies during his time with USPS?
Whatever the case, I am definitely looking forward to how this look back at family history will inform the present, and tie itself into Martha's bigger plans for exploring love in all its forms. |

For one, Oliver's feelings for Shane. Let's be honest, Papa O'Toole saw that lingering look at the end of Truth Be Told, and, as I've said before, I think he's ShOliver's MVP. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that while Oliver is ready to pursue something serious with Shane, he also bears the bumps and bruises of the past. Talking things through with dear old dad might be a good way to build his confidence and gain some solid advice and perspective that his no doubt wracked mind would easily shove to the margins if left to his own devices.
On any account, I hope they openly discuss faith and the things close to their hearts. And, of course, any stories about Oliver as a boy are always welcome around here!
Looking back this post feels a little shallow, but I'm painting a broad stroke here, and if I've learned anything, it's that no matter what we think we know, this cast always ends up delivering infinitely more!
Thinking you've never seen that picture of Kristin posted above? Check out the Signed, Sealed, Delivered: One In A Million photo gallery I posted last night!
Ready To Be Surprised,
