C- So I was fascinated by names and meanings. So I enjoyed the Tactic Manual the most. I think - again for me- the biggest lesson was that Steve thought he could possess Shane by just taking her. (ie: his statement to Shane, What man comes all this way and goes home without what he came for?) Instead Oliver has a firm grasp of what free will is all about. He asked instead "Why would a man ...let you go?" He seems to knows that by giving Shane her choice that if she chooses him it will be deep and abiding. Again - just my brain thinking..... ;-)

Great analysis of Steve in 2017, but it’s incomplete in 2021. Steve used his CIA training to influence Shane. After meeting Shane, he profiled and vetted her. Her background check exposed her painful childhood (absent father and sister’s addiction—Roads Less Travelled). Also, she lacked close family and friends, along with being non-religious. Knowing of their mutual attraction and her weakness for unavailable men (Something Good), he knew how to control and seduce her. In loyalty to him, she would even lie to her friends about his work and their affair (Truth be Told, Impossible Dream).
