Shane's hairstyles in this episode stand out against all others. This is the only episode in which we see Shane rock a ponytail, or anchor her air behind her ears. This is also the first episode, or so it feels watching back, that Shane exudes a distinctly feminine air. She is playful, flirty and even vulnerable at different points throughout the episode.
Knowing that this post would come eventually, I already conditioned you to notice Shane's gradual transition to dresses and skirts from pants. What I intentionally downplayed at that time is exactly when that transition began. It happened in "The Treasure Box." From here on out, it's dresses and skirts all the way. I think this is Shane's response to what happened in the vault. She starts to really come into her own as a woman, a Postable and grow further into her relationship with Oliver. |
Remember how I talked about her reading Katherine's words regarding"feeling beautiful?" From the way her voice quiets as she reads it, I can't help that maybe Shane has gone through life not feeling particularly beautiful herself. Follow that up with her wardrobe transition and you can't help but wonder if she gained a little confidence in that vault, now proudly on display in colors and pattern not previously utilized.
I don't think it was any surprise that Shane replaced Jonathan with Oliver listening to the letters. We all expected that. It's probably one of the first times we really get to see how hard Shane has fallen for Oliver, at least until From Paris With Love.

As for other dialogue, it occurred to me that "You forgot this" wasn't just for Oliver. As seen in the apropos GIF above, Shane had something to forget, too---Holly. And, for all intents and purposes, I think she had, swept up in the magic and romance of the letters---who wouldn't?!
The magic seemed to fade, and reality set back in, when the letter fell out of Oliver's jacket pocket. She did what any decent human being would do and picked it up for Oliver. But the "forgetting" was also the moment of "remembering." |
As you can see, Shane had a few things going on the vault as well, some of which, like her new wardrobe and increasing faith, followed her out. What I'm not sure she noticed, however, was the transition on Oliver's end. But perhaps now, post-Holly, she might in retrospect---just like us!
