Topper, a veteran working at his brother's bike shop, sends his package care of his nephew, who ends up dropping the mangled letter in prop mailbox where the O'Toole men just finished shooting a USPS commercial.
While on-set the POstables learn of the passing of beloved colleague, Eleanor, from Passports. They process the news at the Mailbox Grille later, where Joe, wary of Oliver's "Divine Delivery Theory" makes a bet with Oliver.
Rita & Norman begin their on-foot canvas in an attempt to locate the package shipper in the University Hills area, Shane makes phone calls to get a lead on the t-shirt maker, and Oliver visits Dale to see if there's anything she can glean, while also delivering news about Eleanor's passing.
Despite still coming up empty-handed after several days, Oliver commits to pressing on.
Shane fulfills her promise to continue working on the letter over the weekend, the cologne she smelled on the shirt providing a fresh lead.
At El Dorado Canyon, Oliver and Joe start our on their journey into the woods. Not long into it, Joe gets injured, but insists they continue their hike. Later, Oliver and Joe spend their first night in the woods. As they sit by the fire, Oliver begins to discuss their latest challenge, and Joe realizes he saw the little boy who mailed the letter. Describing it as a matter of life or death, the men decide to head back the next morning.
Shane returns to the DLO the next day to try cologne test only to find out shirt is gone. She presses on. Meanwhile Norman & Rita start and end their food tour, finally determining the which restaurant will get them one step closer to Sandy.
In the woods, Joe’s condition continues to deteriorate, even as Joe downplays his injury.
Norman and Rita track down Sandy, only to find out she’s a dog, trained for military operations and that Topper, her former handler, was the one who sent the letter. Separated after a traumatic mission, and Topper unable to purchase Sandy from the company, Norman makes a bold move to purchase her with O’Toole Foundation funds.
Monday Night/Tuesday Morning
Initiated search efforts locate Joe and Oliver at El Dorado Canyon. Because it’s nightfall, they are stalled in their search efforts til first light. Shane, distressed at the increasingly worsening circumstances calls Norman and Rita to tell them what’s happening, only to fall apart moments later, Dale there to catch her.
Norman and Rita arrive at El Dorado canyon, after receiving an update, Norman remembers Sandy’s super skill and sets her to work. As dawn breaks, Sandy catches their scent again, running ahead to find and rescue the lost pair.
Later, Norman and Rita deliver Sandy to Topper for a happy reunion, in the moment, Norman decides to reject the job offer.
Meanwhile, Oliver and his father discover just how close things were to ending tragically, mutually agreeing that “there’s been too much leaving in [their] family,” vowing to end the trend.
Dale and Shane both at the hospital, Oliver leaves his father to find Dale, from whom he learns it was Shane who made the call to save their lives. Oliver leaves Dale to find Shane in the chapel, for a very sweet reunion that changes everything
