And since I'm on a bit of a fitness kick myself right now, I thought it might be fun to share some jams that remind me of Shane when I hear them, all of which would make killer music to run to, and some have specific application to our favorite tech goddess.
"Elastic Heart" - Sia A rhythm primed for setting a great running pace, this song is my first pick for Shane's playlist. Its apropos lyrics paint the picture of a woman desperate to maintain her strength in the face of repeated heartbreak, and reminds me heavily of Shane's early days in the DLO, especially when it came to dealing with Oliver, when many of the wounds were self-inflicted due to her lack of patience with the situation. You never forget where you came from.
"Hold My Hand" - Jess Glynne The upbeat tempo and message of being ready for whatever comes next and a readiness to be part of something more are a spot-on representation of where Shane is in her relationship with Oliver. All she has to do is wait for Oliver to make the move, but there's an air of excitement and anticipation that can't be quelled surrounding it all. This song captures that perfectly.
"Shake It Out" - Florence + The Machine The point in every run where your mind begins to wander. Sometimes it wanders to the past and the things you've had to overcome to get where you are. I imagine Shane's not only contemplating what comes after her run while this song is playing, but also perhaps taking a second to get reflective. After all, it's hard to dance with a devil on your back...
"Dog Days Are Over" - Florence + The Machine Once you "Shake It Out," things seem a little bit clearer than than they were before. It's no wonder one might want to celebrate the hope on the other side. This additional track from Florence + The Machine definitely seems to capture that vibe. It certainly encourages one to pick up their pace during a run!
"Whistle (While You Work It)" - Katy Tiz There's no question Shane is the master of keeping it together, even as her world seems to be collapsing in around her (See From Paris With Love). She certainly embodied the message of this song of keeping your head up at all times. Besides, who couldn't use an uplifting song to polish off a solid run?
